Sandalwood India (wood) – Full description & information
Origin & tradition. Indian sandalwood ( Santalum album ) is an icon of classic perfumery and South Asian traditions. Its wood oil, creamy and fixative, structures oriental/amber accords and enhances flowers (rose, jasmine, ylang).
Botanical description & raw material. Small hemiparasitic tree (Santalaceae). The essential oil is obtained from the heartwood (chips/trunks) by steam distillation . Authentic batches are dominated by α-santalol and β-santalol , giving the characteristic creamy velvetiness and long lasting aroma.
Olfactory profile & construction. Sweet top note, woody-creamy heart, warm, lactonic, very persistent amber base . Excellent hinge between distilled citrus fruits (bergamot, orange), flowers (rose, jasmine, ylang) and balsams (benzoin, opopanax). Brings roundness , cohesion and hold to compositions.

Formulation tips
Dose gradually: strong fixing and polishing power. Magnificent with distilled citrus, flowers (rose/jasmine/ylang) and balsams (benzoin). Check stability (color/odor) on wax, surfactants and alcohol bases; declare allergens if present.
