Traditional use and dosage

• In capsules: 300 to 500 mg per dose, 1 to 2 times per day, for 2 to 3 weeks.
• Loose powder: 1/2 teaspoon per day in a hot drink, preferably in the morning or early afternoon.
• Common associations: blackcurrant, hawkweed, meadowsweet, ash, burdock.

Precautions, side effects and contraindications

• Plant regulated in France – do not use beyond 6 weeks without supervision.
• Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
• Contraindicated in cases of renal insufficiency or strict low-sodium diet.
• May interact with diuretic drugs (cumulative effect).

History and use

Used in Javanese and Malaysian pharmacopoeias, orthosiphon is renowned for its purifying effects on the body. Incorporated into seasonal cures, it still features today in many natural formulas, provided its use is carefully regulated by public health recommendations.
