A nutritional and medicinal seed

In addition to its nutritional qualities, buckwheat is valued for its beneficial effect on microcirculation, particularly thanks to rutin, a veinotonic flavonoid. Professional use and dosage

  • Feeding: Cook (15 to 20 min) or soak for germination – approximately 40 to 60 g per portion.
  • Germination: 2 to 3 days after soaking – young shoots rich in antioxidants.
  • Infusion / herbal tea: 1 to 2 tbsp for 250 ml of hot water – infuse for 15 min – 1 to 2 cups/day to support circulation.
  • Digestive maceration: used in macerates for venous tone or hepatic drainage.

Precautions, side effects and contraindications

  • Plant generally well tolerated, even in people sensitive to gluten.
  • Not to be confused with roasted or toasted varieties (kasha type).
  • In some very sensitive people, excessive use can cause mild digestive problems (bloating).

History and traditional use

Buckwheat has been cultivated in Europe since the Middle Ages, particularly in Brittany, where it has long been a staple food. Valued for its rapid and hardy cultivation, it has become a nutritional ally for the frail, children, convalescents, and the elderly. In folk medicine, it was recommended for strengthening veins, purifying the liver, and toning the body without acidifying.
